This Privacy Policy describes how OpenSkiesNav LLC (“OpenSkiesNav,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and discloses information about you when you use the OpenSkiesNav mobile application, website at openskiesnav.com, and any related services (collectively, the “Service”). This Privacy Policy is incorporated by reference into our End User License Agreement (“EULA”).
By using the Service, you consent to the data practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Account information: Name, email address, and password when you create an account.
- Payment information: Billing information is collected and processed by our payment processor (Stripe). We do not store full credit card numbers on our systems. We retain transaction records including subscription tier, amount, and date.
- Aircraft profiles: Aircraft make, model, registration, and performance data you enter for weight and balance and flight planning purposes.
- Flight plans: Departure, destination, route, altitude, and other flight planning data you create or save.
- Home airport: Your designated home airport identifier, used to determine Free tier radius access.
- Communications: Any messages you send to our support team, feedback you provide, or posts you make on our community forum.
- Pilot certificates: If you voluntarily provide your pilot certificate information (e.g., certificate number, ratings) for account verification or feature access, we store this information.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device information: Device type, operating system, version, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information.
- Usage data: Features used, screens viewed, session duration, crash reports, and performance data. This information is used to improve the Service.
- Location data: If you grant permission, we may collect your GPS location to display your position on charts, provide local weather and NOTAMs, and support in-flight navigation features. You may revoke location permission at any time through your device settings, though doing so will limit certain features.
- Log data: IP address, access times, pages viewed, and referring URLs when you access the Service.
- ADS-B data: If you use ADS-B integration, we may process traffic and weather data received by your connected ADS-B receiver to display it within the Service. This data is processed locally on your device and is not stored on our servers.
1.3 Information from Third Parties
- Social login providers: If you choose to sign in using Google, Apple, or Microsoft, we receive your name and email address from that provider. We do not receive your password.
- Weather and aeronautical data providers: We receive weather, METAR, TAF, NOTAM, and chart data from the FAA, NOAA, Nav Canada, and other providers. This data is not personal to you but is served to your device based on your location and route.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide the Service: Process your account registration, authenticate your login, deliver chart data, weather, flight planning features, and all other features of the Service.
- Process payments: Manage your subscription, process billing through Stripe, and send receipts and subscription notifications.
- Personalize your experience: Remember your preferences, aircraft profiles, saved flight plans, and home airport setting.
- Improve the Service: Analyze usage patterns, diagnose technical issues, and develop new features.
- Communicate with you: Send service-related notifications (subscription renewals, data updates, outages), respond to support requests, and send product updates. You may opt out of non-essential communications.
- Safety and security: Detect fraud, investigate abuse, and enforce our Terms of Service.
- Legal compliance: Comply with applicable laws and respond to lawful requests from government authorities.
We do not use your flight plan data, location data, or aircraft information for advertising purposes. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not rent, sell, or share your personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:
3.1 Service Providers. We engage trusted third-party companies to perform services on our behalf, including payment processing (Stripe), email delivery, cloud infrastructure, and analytics. These service providers are contractually obligated to protect your information and use it only for the purposes we specify.
3.2 Legal Requirements. We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or government request, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of OpenSkiesNav, our users, or the public.
3.3 Business Transfers. If OpenSkiesNav is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you by email or prominent notice in the Service before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
3.4 With Your Consent. We may share your information for any other purpose with your explicit consent.
3.5 Aggregated and De-identified Data. We may share aggregated, de-identified data that does not identify you personally — for example, aggregate statistics about Service usage — for research, marketing, or other purposes.
4. Data Retention
We retain your account information and User Data for as long as your account is active or as necessary to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes (such as transaction records).
You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting privacy@openskiesnav.com.
5. Data Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include encryption of data in transit (TLS), encrypted storage of passwords using industry-standard hashing (bcrypt), and access controls limiting employee access to personal data.
However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information. If we become aware of a security breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
6. Location Data
The Service requests access to your device’s location to display your current position on charts, provide relevant weather and NOTAM information, and support in-flight navigation features. Location access is optional — you may use most planning features without granting location permission.
We do not store your historical flight tracks on our servers unless you explicitly save a flight. Location data used for in-flight display is processed on your device and is not transmitted to our servers in real time.
7. Children’s Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will promptly delete that information. If you believe we may have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us at privacy@openskiesnav.com.

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights with respect to your personal information:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal information.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain legal exceptions.
- Portability: Request your personal information in a portable, machine-readable format.
- Opt-out of communications: Unsubscribe from non-essential emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email we send.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@openskiesnav.com. We will respond to requests within 30 days.

Canadian residents may have additional rights under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy laws. If you are a Canadian resident, you may contact our privacy team with questions about how we handle your information.
9. International Data Transfers
OpenSkiesNav is based in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States.
10. Third-Party Links and Services
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or integrate with third-party services. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you use.
